Valentine’s Day Remodeling Ideas

February is here and while is the shortest month of the year, this year we get an extra day in February. An extra day for you to immerse yourself in the fun that is renovating your home! And since February is the month of love, why not give your home some well-deserved love throughout the whole month?  Don’t know where to start? Let us give you a few valentine’s day ideas to spice up your home!

Hot Tub

If you ever thought about installing a hot tub in your home, what better month to do so than February? A nice, steamy soak in a hot tub can be relaxing, fun and used for therapeutical purposes. While the hot tub can be installed indoors or outdoors, our preference is outdoors since it provides more flexibility, but regardless of where the hot tub is installed, you won’t have a problem using it year-round.

There are several factors you need to take into consideration when choosing to install a hot tub. Do you prefer in-ground or above-ground? An above-ground hot tub costs less and it’s easier to maintain, but if you have mobility issues, it can be problematic trying to get in and out. And what about size? How many people will be using the hot tub at a time? Depending on your family size, this might be an important factor to consider.

Another factor to consider will be materials. You will need to figure out which material (acrylic, vinyl, rotomolded plastic) fits your needs best. Each material offers different durability, performance, and heat retention properties. And finally, the accessories. Hot tub accessories such as jets, lights, audio, headrests, drink holders and more will allow you to get the most out of your hot tub for years to come!

Expand Your Bathroom

Do you feel sometimes that your bathroom gets smaller and smaller even though its dimensions do not change? If so, you may be due for a bathroom expansion, especially if you have a growing family. You may have several bathrooms in your home, but most certainly only one of those bathrooms acts as your primary bathroom. Regardless of which bathroom you want to expand, doing so will give your family and guests a lot of flexibility.

You can double or triple your bathroom size but keep in mind that to do so, you might need to commission some closet or bedroom space, maybe even take out a wall. One of the most common ways to expand a bathroom is by building an addition while remodeling the master suite. This allows you to start from scratch and build the perfect bathroom.

Once you have determined the space to be used for your bathroom expansion, comes the fun part, how to design it. His and her bathroom vanities and sink are a given. But what about the rest? Do you want his and her bathtubs? One bathtub and one walk-in shower? How about his and her walk-in showers? Maybe add a hot tub, why not? Whichever option you go with, make sure your house has strong water pressure to accommodate all streams and that your water heater can keep up with increased demand.

Install A Fireplace

As the Teddy Pendergrass song goes, “Turn off the lights, and light a candle…” or in our case, light a fireplace. Imagine yourself in front of a fire cozied up with your significant other, listening to some tunes and watching the fire flames dance the night away. Adding a fireplace to your home is a great way to enhance its ambiance and create a cozy atmosphere.

Contrary to popular opinion, installing a fireplace in your home is not a costly luxury. You can choose from an electric (which is extremely realistic), gas or wood burning fireplace. It all depends on your preferences and how you plan to use the fireplace, now and in the future. Each type of fireplace has both advantages and disadvantages that range from costs to ease of use and maintenance.

And what about location? While it may be the norm to add a fireplace to a blank wall in your living room so everyone can enjoy it, you are not restricted to install a fireplace in just that one location. You can be a little selfish and keep all the ambiance to yourself and install the unit in your bedroom. If you have a sunroom, you can have a fireplace there as well. Since the sunroom is technically located outside, this can be beneficial during the chilliest months, especially if you spend a lot of time in the sunroom.

Entertainment Room

Do you have space in your house that you’re not using? Or a basement that’s underutilized? Get rid of all the junk in that room and make it a place for you and your significant other to enjoy instead. This room can become a place where you can spend date nights without having to leave the house.

The entertainment room can be a multifaceted room. From movie nights to book club meetings, from game nights to some “me” time, your entertainment room will be a place where you can leisure indefinitely. You can equip this room with various lighting options such as ambient lighting, recessed lighting, and dimmers to be used depending on the occasion. And if you complement it with smart home electronics, you might never leave this room again!

You can also incorporate a bar area with a wine fridge and have a foosball, ping pong or pool table for those times where you just need to unwind. And don’t forget about seating. Make sure you integrate a comfortable sectional couch and a couple of recliners for those quiet moments we all need. Mix it with a good surround sound system and a big screen TV (or retractable projection screen) and you might even need to charge for admission.

In the end, when it comes to remodeling your home, there aren’t any bad or wrong ideas. The best part of home renovation is letting your imagination flow.
