The kitchen is arguably the most important room in your home. Therefore, you might want to add some functionality to it. Enter the kitchen island! Adding a kitchen island with seating helps organize the people in your kitchen while you prepare a meal. You and your family can use the extra space for anything such as a breakfast bar, a dining area, and a workstation.
Additionally, the kitchen island can provide extra cooking, preparation, and storage space. Depending on your budget, style, and needs, you can add an additional kitchen sink and faucet, cooktop and even a small refrigerator (or two). Smart homes are here to stay. AI tech will continue to rise in 2024 and there’s no better moment to start integrating it in your home since these smart products are already in their 3rd or 4th generations and most of the glitches have been worked out. While some people say smart home and immediately think about Siri, Alexa or Google, there’s more to the smart home than that. There’s a wide variety of security cameras (floodlight, doorbell, outdoor, solar panel), thermostats, electrical outlets, light switches, door locks, dimmers, light bulbs, ambient lighting, and appliances that you can use to help you become more efficient around the house.
While buying a smart home product is more expensive, it’ll help modernize (and future proof) your home as these products are made to last. Depending on the size of your house, you may want to start in a single room or set up the whole house all at once, but take it easy, especially if you’re not tech savvy, as most of these smart home products have different learning curves. If possible, try buying products of the same brand. That way you only worry about one setup (done via your phone app).
One of the benefits of having these smart home items is that you can chain/link them to create a routine. For example, if I’m ready to go to sleep, I can say “good night” (or yell from another room) and have the lights, TV, door lock all act on a command I’ve previously set up (on or off). In the end, you will be satisfied with the amount of control and automation that you’ll have over the house, especially if you opt to use voice commands which is a great benefit when you have your hands full around the house.
Dog Shower Station
Do you have dogs? Are your dogs like my dogs? Not a single care in the world? Constantly being themselves by getting dirty outdoors like their ancestors taught them to? If so, have you thought about adding a standalone dog shower to your house? A dog shower station isn’t limited to just pets. If you install it at or near an entrance, it’s a great way for everyone to get rid of dirt and mud before spreading it all over the house.
You can build it with a raised platform, a detachable shower head and easy to clean materials. Depending on the temperament of your pooch, you may want to add plexiglass to prevent any splashes. Not only will you be spoiling your canine, but it’s safer for them while helping you keep the rest of the house clean, particularly if your dog’s breed is on the hairy side.
Sunroom
You may ask, what is a sunroom? It is an outdoor living room. Or maybe, an outdoor lounge. It’s simply an indoor room that emulates the feeling of being outdoors. A sunroom consists of glass windows and skylights to maximize natural light and showcase views of the outdoors. They are an extension of the house and are usually separated by a glass sliding door.
This room can serve all purposes, from hosting guests to doing some office work to reading a book and falling asleep under the stars. In other words, it’s an all-around room. It can have a fireplace, a bar, a TV, workout equipment, you name it. If you choose to add a sunroom to your house, be ready to gain some popularity and some property value as well!
Ultimately, while we are still in 2024, there’s plenty of time to start working on those projects that your house desperately needs. But don’t put them aside for too long. Whether you complete one or twenty projects this year, don’t be afraid to incorporate new ideas, new visions.
