Retaining Walls

Retaining walls are carefully designed walls used to restrain soil in your yard. They stabilize sloped landscapes, prevent erosion, and manage storm water runoff.  And they create stunning outdoor living spaces.

For example, if you have a sloped yard that is currently difficult to garden or use for recreation and relaxation, a retaining wall can convert that space into beautiful, useful space.

Retaining walls need to be carefully planned properly installed. They restrain tons of saturated soil. If not properly built, prone to erosion.

Retaining walls often increase the value of your home. When built correctly, they last a long time and can be earth-friendly. And, unlike so many other components of a home and yard, they require minimal or no maintenance.

What Materials Are Used to Make Retaining Walls?

Retaining walls can be made from many substances. The size, shape, and location of the wall determine the best material.

  • Concrete Block: These are installed over a gravel base so they can flex slightly. They come in a wide variety of shapes, textures and colors.
  • Natural Stone:  Natural stone is visually appealing. For that reason, it is a popular choice for many homeowners. Natural stone tends to be a little more expensive.
  • Wood Plank / Timber: While not as popular, wood retaining walls complement some homes and yards.

In addition to being functional, retaining walls often become an artistic focal point of your landscape design.
